(8 1861 Sept 1st + [[symbol: Cross]] 15th Enc 24th Day I wonder at my taking him when I knew his composition by my trip to the Extreme Land bet. Frobisher Bay & Rescue Bay. He was one of my Co. & showed then that he was a lazy 'booby'! I regret taking him on this Ex. but he's here & I must make the best of it. The coast a few minutes after leaving 14th Enc. becomes rock - the rock of mountains. However they reach same height for a little distance up & from the coast as Sand, shingle & Rock Bank - or rather the Plains above it. Having passed on N.W. ([[?te]]) some little time, I turned the Boat toward Kin-gaite Coast for the object landing & visiting a [[underlined]] remarkable ridge of apparent fine sand that stretched a mile or so along the Coast. Before reaching the water's edge boat made bottom - some 2 1/2 or 3 rods out. From the appearance of the low plains around the indications were of gradual incline of coast - & so I find it.
