present Company. But I was obliged to take such [[underlined]] material [[/underlined]] as the country afforded - or, give up all idea of making this Voyage this Season. I am now here & - - God only knows whether I shall get back again or not. But I will believe all is for the best - yet, it is [[underlined]] hard [[/underlined]] to submit to such treatment as I am receiving from these three men Innuits. They were hired, & paid in advance, for services to be rendered to my interests on this Voyage. How [[underlined]] little [[/underlined]] have they kept in view this fact just stated! Better conduct was expected from (at least) [[underlined]] Koo-jes-se [[/underlined]] & [[underlined]] Koo-per-neu-ung [[/underlined]] than what they have exhibited. And justly so was this opinion formed of the 2 named; for they had [[underlined]] generally [[/underlined]] shown dispositions to obey orders while in the employ of Capt. B.
But why do I pen my 'pull-backs' - the obstacles wh. oft seem mountain-big in my way on this voyage? I do it that I may, now & then, [[underlined]] peruse, [[/underlined]] by my own quiet fire side, scenes through which I once passed.

B. will feel no disappointment; but in that of Ke. & Kg. [[underlined]] he will [[/underlined]] I am confident. I doubt not, on communicating to him the facts, Capt. B. will feel in a [[underlined]] 'virtuous-rage' especially, [[/underlined]] of the behaviour of the two named parties. But I have devoted quite space, [[underlined]] ink [[/underlined]] (the latter is a precious article with me now having but a small quantity wh. I have to make good, [[underlined]] in measure, [[/underlined]] by diluting with water every few days) & time enough to this matter of difficulties, obstacles, perplexities &c. &c. I pass to other subject:
The happiest one that comes to mind is [[underlined]] that I am better! [[/underlined]] My shoulder affliction is on the improvement. Last night, another of Job's Comforters delivered contents - thus [[underlined]] four [[/underlined]] in all. I think of these friendly (?) Comforters (?) have visited me, since commencing this Voyage! One hath prolonged its stay beyond [[underlined]] 'Comforting' [[/underlined]] time,
