(7 1861 Sept 10th Tues. 16th Enc. 5 D. 33d D. out but tho it will leave proof of this in an uncouth scar yet I am happy to say that the affliction itself is about departed. My shoulder hangs less heavily than it did. Ood-nook plaster & quietness have worked charmingly together. I have just returned (hV-m30 PM) fro a long walk over the mountain, hills, river, sand-banks, sand & grass plains covering nearly the same in coming home again. Too long a walk, indeed, to begin with on recovery of my prostration. But when I get out I see so many inducements, so much of the soul-inspiring to push on - [[underlined]] & on [[/underlined]] - that it is with difficulty that I stop - & face homewards. My poor shoulder complains bitterly for the irritation this walk has given it. What shall I do? [[underlined]] Work must be done [[/underlined]] - or regrets will press heavily upon me for years to come. The following I copy from my Rough & Ready Note Book "On the Mountain back of 16th (& 13th) Enc. the highest part of the land" - (there I must stop!- for Koo-ou-le-a (Susy) comes in with my tea-kettle, steaming with tea that she just steeped for my supper - the 'in-man' [[end page]] [[start page]] (8 1861 Sept 10 Tues. 16th Enc. 5th Day 33d day out needs refreshing. For my supper - Hot tea, cold (fried) venison, sea-bread soaked in tea, & Tood-noo! - the tea sweetened with Molasses. I do not desire a better supper. It went with a capital relish. Now for doing what I was about to do when Koo-ou-le-a made her appearance with the aforesaid Tea-Kettle: - by the by I must say that Tood-noo (rein-deer tallow) goes finely with hot-tea or & hot-coffee. Taking a slice of Tood-noo into the mouth then 'sipping' the tea or coffee leaves such a delightful taste that I am almost ready to exclaim: 'Ambrosia & nectar of the gods [[underlined]] discovered [[/underlined]] at last!'
