I started out with the Boat accompanied by Koo-jes-se & Kood-loo for visiting the Islands surrounding or making this Harbor (?) for object of taking sights - of 12th Enc. & of 14 & 15th Encs &c if possible.  The wind was blowing strong from N.W. therefore made sail.  We took along only our pulling oar the others being in use as frames for the Tu-piks.  I thought it possible we might need another, & proposed to Koo-jes-se to withdraw another from one of the Tupiks - but he thought Wind would hold good & of same direction till we arrived back.  Getting fairly under way & 1/4 of a mile out, Koo-jes-se thought of his spy wh. he knew I wanted & needed on this short excursion.  He asked if we should return & get it.  I answered Yes!  No sooner said that boat was on Course back to Tupiks.  As we drew near the shore one shout from Koo-jes-se brought Tu-nuk-de-lien

out with the [[?]] for seeing instrument who ran down to the water's edge just in time catch the bow of the Boat thus saving it from a [[underlined]] 'thump' [[/underlined]] on the rocks.  Another turn & away we sped - still under all sail.  How exhilarating to the inner man to have fair Wind, Light load & good all around!  The Boat seemed to fly over the water, so buoyant & speedy ere like a "thing of life" did go!
Before we got across the Harbor (?) (we were passing its greatest depth) Koo-jes-se made the remark that we probably would have to stay on the Island all night.  I asked him Why?  'Low tide' he responded.  That will not do (I said) to stop out tonight.  I am just recovering from illness as you know & we must return.  I will get through my work if there is danger of low tide keeping us out all night in a few minutes.  On the N.W. wind rushed us.  We shot in between 2 rocks with Boat as we
