& make the Harbor (?) we commenced the work in our design that of [[underlined]] tracking, towing. [[/underlined]] While Koo-jes-se & Kood-loo shouldered line & followed along the slimy rocks - turning here & there in correspondence to the broken, indented, protruding character of the Coast, I kept within the Boat with "Gib" in hand keeping Boat from foundering or bumping against the rocks.
Occasionally, spite of all efforts to the prevention thereof the boat became fast. Instantly Koo-jes-se & Kood-loo would jump to the relief going in knee deep if need be into the tarrio (sea water) & lift, pull & push the boat adrift! Every few score of fathoms a deep inlet - not of water-depth - but running up a distance among rocks, mud & sand perhaps too shallow for boat or of too great extension to follow around. In this case Koo-jes-se & Kood-loo would jump aboard & assist to ferry across - then out again dragging tow line after them Canal-[[?Tantrum]]-[[underlined]] Horse fashion. [[/underlined]]
Mid Islands, shoals around extended points into & around inlets wading through shallow waters over sand bars & rocks thus the Boat was towed against a head wind (gale) for miles. Our object was to get far enough up that if possible we might under sail strike across & make tupiks. Before we got through this laborious wet work the tide happily turned - it was now flowing.

From the relative position of Sun & Moon the tides are now less in their highest & lowest points. This proved fortunate to us. That is the [[underlined]] low [[/underlined]] part! The Sun had now descended - it was down. Shades of night were being let down, & here we were, much further from tupiks than when upon the Island where we 1st expected to spend the night. Well for us the Gale had ceased - only a strong breeze from the W. now prevailed. [[underlined]] Again [[/underlined]] we commenced the desperate work of Sailing over shoal broken waters! Endeavouring again to make tupiks that would cover us with their friendly folds - protect us from the cold & cheerless night. My eyes were kept over the side of the Boat on making this bold passage. Kood-loo held on to the line keeping fast the jib - ready at a moment's bidding to 'let-go' & at the same time kept a look out ahead for rocks while Koo-jes-se managed managed steering oar & kept the line in hand that held Main sail to its sharp set against the strong breeze - he also thus ready
