(10 1861 Oct 2d Wedns (33) "A great many years since many Innuits lost there - ice floated away from the land - carried the Innuits away & never came back again & never heard more of them. Since then Innuits not live there. (34) "Could not tell anything about it. From the answers given to me of the questions, I did not ask 35th & 36th questions. Having detained Shev-ek-koo & Oo-shoo-tar-ping a long time, I gave each a present - the former tobacco - & the wife beads. Some of the answers do not agree with the numerous Innuits that I have before communicated with - for instance (17) (18). The time of departure of the Kod-lu-narrs from the Island (K.) as near as I can make out from the best informed Innuits was when it was cold - the ship was driven back [[underlined]] & the Innuits died from cold. [[/underlined]] But I do not expect all will agree in their statements. I shall continue communicating with Innuits on this subject till I leave the country.
