if there were any high land that overlooked this & the other Bay said land near the Upper part of this?  The answers were uniformly they did not know.
A few minutes sufficed to complete a crew, & one of excellent composition.  As I wish to retain their names, I here record them.

I hastened to get what few things I desired to take into the Boat.  Old Ar-tark-pa-ru desired to return ashore therefore I took him aboard & placed him in a few moments along side his Tupik - thence we passed on for a few moments longer to the point of a goodly number of other tupiks where Ebierbing has his.  Here we stopped 5 minutes for E. to get his gun & other things.  I ran

up with him to get my sextant & Artificial Horizon that I had taken over there on the 16th for Meridional & P.M. Obs.  (The clouds however did not permit them to be taken).  
I had the pleasure of seeing Tuk-oo-li-too & of finding that the babe was quite recovered from its ill turn of yesterday.  Ebierbing & I playfully answered her (E's) question:  'Where we were going? by saying:  Oo-pung-ne-wing (?)  Catching the play in our eyes, she said 'Ag-gi, Ag-gi'!  (No, No.)
E & I returned at once to the Boat - & started 20 or 25 minutes after IX-00 AM.  (Exact time will be given with other matter belonging to [[underlined]] time & distance [[/underlined]] at the termination of this day's record).
After making up west wide of the Island near wh. the vessel is anchored & wh. forms N. & N.W. side of the harbor, I was surprised to find much ice.
Indeed, early this Morning there was no ice in the harbor but at the time we left, it had formed so thick that it was with great difficulty that the Boat was pulled through it, the ice having made this Morn a short distance from the ship to the tupiks.  Finding the ice too heavy
