This A.M. a beautiful band ^[[of rainbow colors]] on the surface of the ice shooting out from ones position [[strikethrough]] wit [[/strikethrough]] while on the vessel at the right of the Sun while it was mounting the heavens. Distance from Sun 22[[degree symbol]]. For over an hour this pretty sight. From all appearance the air very clear & yet there must have been an evaporation going on to cause this phenomenon. At 12 Midnight, another fine sight - [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] the Moon encircled by several belts of rainbow colors. The diame^[[ter]] [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] of largest 8[[degree symbol]] (eight degrees). A very gauzy [[strikethrough]] t[[?]] [[/strikethrough]] cloud passing a little distance up ^[[from the Earth]] was the cause of this.
Sharkey killed 9 partridges to-day. & Ebirnbing one rabbit - & other Innuits more or less of yesterdays & Rab^[[b]]its. Innuits have given a share of them to Capt B. So we shall have fresh game [[strikethrough]] for [[/strikethrough]] dinner to-morrow.
