He shakes his head with [[underlined]] sour [[/underlined]] looks - & says no! low water, wind blows hard - get on the rocks & xLxL[[?]]. I said to him: It seems I cannot do the Work I came here for - I thought it would be just so when you told me [[strikethrough]] he [[/strikethrough]] ^[[you]] would go there with me when we ^[[turned in here]] [[strikethrough]] made [[/strikethrough]] (17th enc.)[[/strikethrough]]

[[strikethrough with a large "X"]] [[underlined]] Now when I get to the ship, I shall have some Words with Koo-jes-se in the presence of my friend Capt B. He concludes I suppose, that he is going too far in his [[underlined]] wrong [[/underlined]] so liberally dealt out to me by him & his 2 men companions. [[/strikethrough]]

Transcription Notes:
"Capt. B" is probably Captain Budington. This page contains excerpts reported on pp 421 and 422 of Hall's book "Arctic Researches, And Life Among The Esquimaux: Being A Narrative Of An Expedition In Search Of Sir John Franklin In The Years 1860, 1861 and 1862."
