Digging down 15 inches into solid coal before coming to with - the Innuits assist in searching among the Coal for flint stones As at Ni-oun-te-lik & Kod-lu-narn they pass [[underlined]] all [[/underlined]] to me as they find them - so I thought but by accident disclosure that the large pieces - best specimens - are pocketed by them - I [[underlined]] "m[[?]]" [[/underlined]] knowing that I could [[underlined]] concoct [[/underlined]]  a plan that would draw them all out into my hands at a proper time. I proceede to examine carefully the Coal that has been scattered by the winds to ascertain its great age. Dig down into the snow at considerable distance from Main pile & find Coal extending over great area - at least apparently 5 tons Coal there - The pile East Side of [[underlined]] highest part [[/underlined]] of tongue - Close by it - Draft the Bay & harbor - extent a walk N. W. to get a look of easterly ex. of Harbor - distance to Ex. 3/4 mile. Across main harbor 1/4 by 1/3 mile - but across to said ex 3/4 wh is a kind of small inlet making up to base of a mountain. Night fast approaching - hurried movements - brief stay
