The incident of finding the iron wh. is a very important matter, I must at once record - We had been upon the island 1 hour or about that time, I should think tho I was really unconscious of Time all the while on the Island. I had just taken Koo-jes-se with me to examine how high into the Ships way or trench the tide at full & Change extended We had mounted the Stone Bank on the E. side 7 while he proceeded to search for relics near head of Ship's way I went down on the [[strikethrough]] pass [[/strikethrough]] top of said E.bank to the Ex next to Bluff abutting the water. As I looked down to the base of the Tongue on wh. I stood I saw wedged in bet. 2 rocks what appeared to be a stick of timber about 2 feet long & 6 in square very old - in appearance - I called to Koo-jes-se to [[underlined]] 'Ki-eta' [[/underlined]] & pointed to him where I wished him to go. At the point where I stood it was impossible to get down a distance perpendicular[[guess]] was about ^[[20 or]] 25 feet - I was engaged at measuring length of trench so on the whole I thought it best that Koo-jes-se be called to go down and examine it - He hastened around and down.  As he came directly on nearly under me. on his arriving to the Supposed relic of wood he Said it was ^[[a]] Stone! I was surprised - & disappointed. I then proceeded Pacing off trench
