Were highly elated at the "pluck" ^[[displayed by]] [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] said duck joining heartily in free outbursts of laughter at every shot made. All of 20 shots were made by the 3 Innuits in my Boat & "Miner" & at the termination of the war, duck exhibited as nimble feet - as bright an eye - as proud a neck and when Innuits 1st began their sport! At hV-m30 Chro. Arrived at Budington Ville and made landing. Both Boats stopped there. I went directly to flag staff hill. A portion only on the original flag which I believe was a bed blanket) remained. The Gates have robbed it of all its original greatness - have reduced it to simply one stripe each red, white & blue - wh run up & down - in line with the staff. "Budington Ville" is shorn of its beauty & glory - [[underlined]] it is deserted [[/underlined]] - the Storm worn flag is typical of [strikethrough]]of[[/strikethrough]] the desertion - & the ruins about. Naught remains but the ^[[Stone]] Walls ^[[of the Kitchen]] partly [[strikethrough]] do [[/strikethrough]] down to let free the imprisoned instrument of the uneven legged Cooks to wit, the Cook-Stove 2 long rows of planted casks (^[[the]] Casks - oil - Casks are covered with sods) Boards, the Crimsoned stained table ^[[now]] destitute of its leaves by the ruthless hands of Innuits - the Casks of Walrus blubber, Ice anchor, ropes, empty barrells, wood from timbers of the wrecked "Truvellen" - the Innuit provisions ^[[of Tupiks]] - of furs, skins & ook-sook or blubber &c &c
Forty minutes was the stop here. [[strikethrough]] The [[/strikethrough]] Slowly I turned my steps from this
place where I have spent many a happy hour with my friend Capt B. to the Boat. Will my eyes ever again be upon this place again? God only knows.
Our passage hence to this place one of pleasure to the Innuits hunting Mei-tuks. As we got nearly opposite
place of our 1st Encamp. (out) several ducks shot by 1st sighting Men in shore [[strikethrough]] hue [/strikethrough]] endeavoring to hide themselves among the rocks. The reports of the guns of both boats
& the 2 Kia-as kept the air constantly thundering for a full [[strikethrough]] [[??]] [[/strikethrough]]
hour just before making
