"Re's is believed to refer the the chronometer (highly accurate timepiece) Hall purchased (ref page 253 in his book): "'To-day I have purchased of the captain [Budington] the chronometer that had belonged to the Rescue. I intend to make record of all the observations I take, leaving most of them to be worked up on my return home. "G.H's"refers to the chronometer on board the "George Henry." The chronometers are compared to evaluate gain or loss of time, which can result in errors in location and navigation. In this comparison Hall sees that his watch is fast relative to G H's by 16 minutes, 32 seconds. This page relates to page 440 in Hall's resulting book.
