their guns on sighting the dark figure of the vessel fired a volley following it with Shouts & Cheers in wh I heartily joined. The one on watch at the vessel at yet did not Know what to make of it. But 2d thought told him that I & my party was returning - He responded [[strikethrough]] It [[/strikethrough]] ^[[by]] shouting & hastened (below as I soon learned) an announced to Capt B & others fore & aft that I was coming. All had retired save the Watch when we drew up along side I was greeted by Capt B. & all hands. A moment suffered to find me up the vessels side & on her deck having in my hand the warm hand of Capt. B. - At 1st I was surprised at the excitement my arrival had produced - but I soon found it had become a general conclusion ^[[within the G.H.'s Co & the Innuits about have]] that I & my party had met with some sad mishap - that we had perhaps lost our boat while upon some Island - & perhaps ^[[some thus]] had lost our lives too. To them then our appearance was as if the dead had come to [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] life again.
Capt. B at once ordered Cook & Steward ^[[to}} prepare for me ^[[& party]] Supper - While this was being got in readiness questions [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] & answers flowed like a river between us. I was greatly surprised at the answer given me to the question I asked when I 1st came on deck: How many whales secured? 'Not One'. I could hardly credit this report but I found it to be true.
