^[[from gale the snow continued increasing. The going - [[underlined]] down-hill [[/underlined]] 1/2 this way getting home to-day! Tupiks were erected & everything in Boat placed therein. Now we are Gale-bound some 20 miles from the vessel, the distance that we should have made in 1/2 a day. Two days ^[[& not yet]] to Lupton Channel!  The truth is [[underlined]] I must return [[/underlined]] soon as wind & weather will admit it - When that will be [[underlined]] Mortals [[/underlined]] cannot tell. The Trip I desired to make cannot be made in the time ^[[remaining]] [[Note: words obscured in fold]] [[?]] to me. Now possible that it cannot on thence the time. I have done my duty - I have tried to ^[[get where I can,]] accomplish more work in searching to return to the States with the "George Henry" - but I cannot do it baring that this expression when such weather as we are now having- as we have had nearly all the time since my return from Frobisher Bay trip & what I may presumably  expect [[strikethrough]] for the next [[/strikethrough]] at this season of the year. Capt. B's reading aloud to me the Log of the "George Henry" just before starting, on my present request, the history of last year otherwise than encouraging. Not such a gale, as we are now having, since last Winter - 2 seasons only here - summer & Winter. [[underlined]] Summer comes in with Aug. & ends with it! [[/underlined]] A fact. Sometimes a part of Aug. & a part of Sept make up the summer but all confined to 31 or less number of days. The birch [[?]] as I start up An-na-wa at ship.
