(Remarks applying to 25th & 27th June /62)
By Traverse table on preceding page [[strikethrough]] ^[[ [[?]] ]] [[/strikethrough]] it will be seen that distance made bet. 2d Enc. (on Rogers' Island) & 3d Encampment is ^[[Ms[[guess]] ]] 8.95 while distance by the table is only 8.07 being a difference of nearly one mile. I think this distance [the increase or excess of nearly 1 mile] of 25th to have been from dogs getting to the Westward of direct Course as they really did it being impossible to keep them [[underlined]] direct [[/underlined]] on a/c of the gale - - - [[Note: dotted line leading to enclosed note to the right under the Traverse Table]] [[boxed]]
There being this difference I shall take my departure on return from place 2d Enc. (on Rogers Island)

Transcription Notes:
From the Transcription Team: (please see instruction page at https://transcription.si.edu/instructions#basic ) For symbols and special characters, if you are able to produce the actual characters that is great! We love it! But if you can't, do the best you can with words, but don't stress too much about it. Edited: per instructions, removed symbols and replaced with text, i.e., sun. degree, feet. Added text denoted by ditto marks per instructions, removed end of page on 2nd page not in instructions, placed spaces between underlined and strikethrough brackets entries, added text missing from previous transcription, other general formatting, etc. [[re-edited by original transcriber to restore degree symbols (?), minute (') and second (") symbols.\,and circumpunct (?) [for sun] as original for easier reading and searching. Also aligned hour, minute, degree, minutes &seconds numbers for better clarity; and corrected some spellings. SI approved using keyboard generated symbols. mandc]] Transcribed in the Journal page box over transcription page box mode so that the transcription looks as much like the Journal page as possible. Typed mathematical equation lines rather than [[underlined]]. Not sure why pages in this series not on chronological order, mixed dates, not in sequence. June 26 & 27 described on page 548 of Hall's book. I have used unicode Alt248 to type the circumpunct [sun] symbol. I think "end page" makes it clearer that the transcriber has finished double page images. Hall's spelling of Rogers's varies in the Journal.
