Mate Lamb decided to catch a walrus - Sure many game (schools) pulled for this - at last saw one napping pulled for it - struck him & in less than 15 minutes had a ton of fresh provisions in our boat. Arrived at that VII - 30 P.M. all feeling better for the trail [[strikethrough]] matter[[guess]] [[/strikethrough]] made.
The exclamation of Innuit Koo-per-neu-ung to the men who remained behind as we were pushing off. Sterry delegated to take charge of [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] officers tent & get supper ready - The appetites given by this salt water excursion - Duck & Egg pie or soup good antidote for voracious appetites. The lunch on new walrus after capturing walrus. The barking on Stuttering[[guess]] [[strikethrough]] Inoo-[[?]] [[/strikethrough]] Bull like roaring of walrus to call their kind to them. The stratagem of like sounds of Innuits to draw walrus toward our boats. On our return find that this 2 ^[[ mentioned ]] Boat Steerers, Baily & Morgan, have taken all the Innuit dogs & a sledge & run off to the ship. Koo-jes-se to whom most of the dogs belong, in rage. The probability that he will proceede to-morrow to the ship after them (the dogs). Mate Rogers decides to make no more trials for whales - This decision (unexpected as it is to me) makes me decide that [[underlined]] if no more whaling is to be prosecuted here now, [[/underlined]] to proceede with my Innuit crew to accomplish the work for wh. I left the ship.

The Gale of to-day would not admit of my starting on my reproposed[[guess]] trip this morning.
As Koojesse [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] made up his mind to go to ship, partly in compliance to Mate Rogers request & for his desire to secure his (K's) dogs who were taken away yesterday by Bailey & Morgan. Wrote a note to Capt. B. ^[[ [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] & sent it by K]] stating the reasons ^[[ [by which]] I [[strikethrough]] was [[/strikethrough]] had remained this long here & of my course in volunteering my services & those of my Innuit Boat Crew for the object of assisting in cruising for whales. Koo-jes-se did not start of till about [[strikethrough]] 1 o'clock [[/strikethrough]] h 1 - m 00 P.M. - his wife accompanied him. He goes over the land, directing his course to Parker's Bay, having made wh. he strikes direct across the ice for ship. It's now probable the ice of Rescue Bay is pretty well broken up. If fair to-morrow I shall probably see how it is as I shall start for (D.V.) & get to what I have denominated the S.E. Ex. land bet. [[for between]] Rescue Bay & Bay of F. - ^[[When [[strikethrough]] who [[/strikethrough]] ]] [[?]] upon the high land I can see ^[[Budington]] Bay [[strikethrough]] of [[?]], [[/strikethrough]] Rescue Bay & Bay of Frobisher by a simple turn upon the heel.
