I found "Jennie" was [[underlined]] determined to go [[/underlined]] (through Koo-ses-se) who by the by I think helped this matter on by [[?conniving]] with her - proposed to him K. to go in Sharkey's place. He (K.) exhibited [[underlined]] such a spirit [[/underlined]] and made such excuses that I at once saw ^[[ there are no ]] hopes of getting him to go.
I set Henry to work getting up a "reel" for my lay line on return Henry a longtime "offish" about accompanying me on the trip of 4 to 6 days - was afraid something might happen!
On the return of Koo-jes-se, Kookin & Bill who had gone out after Walrus in their 3 Ki-as, told him my purpose - to take Henry & the dogs & go on my trip starting to-morrow. The d - l being in K., he exhibited all the fire of determination that he would block my plans as fast as I made them. His replies to my questions of the most scornful character.
My heart burning - Sharkey perfectly pleased to do anything & every to help me - & yet in K.'s presence acts as if under the [[underlined]] charm [[/underlined]] or influence of this sad workman. Koo-jes-se finally (late PM) consents to let me have the use of his dogs on my offering him ^[[big &]] additional pay in way of Caps powder &c to what I was to give him. when I came to tell him that I should need my tupik he K. objected to my taking it! [[underlined]] Outrageous Conduct! [[/underlined]] I then stated certain reasons why I thought it best to start back for ship. This displeased K. for he wanted to stop here several days. Said that if he started to-morrow the distance made would be [[underlined]] [[generalley ]] [[/underlined]]. Another time of [[?contruplik]] brought around a gut change in my purpose By my offering Koo-jes-se my Rifle an instrument that he wants very much - he will accompany me on a trip to the Inlet which to explore also go with me

the other. This whole conduct changed by this office now good to all appearances as man need be when before bitter as the worst & most fearful of enemies could be. Sharkey is to go also. Jennie & Tu-nuk-der-lien to remain here, also Henry the Innuits Kook -in & Bill providing them with provisions on our absence wh. is expected to be 10 or 12 days The invite to seal supper - [[underlined]] the palpable [[/underlined]] evidence that K. was at bottom of [[strikethrough]]?[[/strikethrough]] "Jennie"s ^ outrageous]] conduct by transactions of this [[?]]. The prospect acquiescence of "Jennie" of going while Sharkey accomping me on a few words from K.! K. capable of doing great mischief on the "sly." The fact I was in peculiar circumstances that induced me to offer K. my favorite Rifle until that was done he was obstinate, cross & full of [[underlined]] devilish intentions [[/underlined]]!
