I at once decided to await her coming up for my heart felt for him who has [[underlined]] so nobly [[/underlined]] conducted himself through this day's long - [[underlined]] long [[/underlined]] hours to [[underlined]] [[?here ]] [[/underlined]] [[?]]. Sharkey takes Water bag & tincup & proceeds to the land 1/4 mile off to Ki-ki-tuk-ju-ou-sen at the left for water while the stop is made for "Jennie" to come up.
My resolve that if she persisted in going in going of turning back. Then propose to continue her inroads into my provisions by being one of the Company. My short rejoicing as we left the 10th Enc. that I was out of the presence of such evil intent ones as Koo-jes-se & Jennie. As Jennie approaches ^ [[ she ]] she shears off at a distance from the sledge making a course as if to meet Sharkey as he returned from the Island with water. Sharkey comes off land & gets onto the Sea ice to return to where I was in wait just a "Jennie" ^[[ is]] passing. "Jennie" keeps on - turning neither to right or left - Sharkey calls to her. She turns not - continues her rapid gait & striking proudly her loose mitten she had in one [[strikethrough]] her [[/strikethrough]] hand into the other hand wh she used as a "shuttle cock" door. Sharkey quickens his steps to catch up with her - calls & calls to her - she walks stoically on Sharkey at length makes up to her & attempts to arrest her in his progress - she throws him aside as if he was a viper & [[strikethrough]] she [[/strikethrough]] walks on [[strikethrough]] ? I spoke to him sympathetically my heart overflowing with love to my wounded friend. I tell him 'Ebiru pee-ee-uke' putting my arms kindly around him. He points to Jennie ^[[ who still trudges on ]] cries [[?yen-?nu ? ?sm-?nil ^[[?]] putting hand over his heart & weeping. "Sharkey" showed that for all his trouble with "Jennie" he was willing to do just as I would. I found it difficult for him to comprehend that I decided to give up continuing on under the present circumstances. at 3-27 (Chro) - h?10 -m27 AM - started back for place 10th Enc. at [[?rate ?4 ?Ms]] per h. went to stopping point 2 Ms. per h. Arrived back 3-54 Cho (h10-m54 AM). Sharkey at once had sledge unloaded & started out with dogs sealing (?) taking along his gear & ammunition bag - the poor fellow seemed - in truth was suffering terribly for his wife's conduct. I knew his purpose to be to go in pursuit of "Jennie". She was the great the loved object of his Sealing. He proceeded on oposite (N.W.) side of Island from that we went. He returned with his Seal ("Jennie") 5 PM. Jennie had for her pack her Tuk-too jacket & Tuk-too skins (for bedding).
My purpose changed to starting back for ship to-morrow. I reflect contemplate &c - Finnally form another plan to explore Grinnell Bay - Take Henry as dog driver leaving Koo-jes-se & Sharkey& the wives here till I return. I may have state the when
