Sunday, Mar 15/96
Snowy & rainy, Miserable with a cold, stay at home, read, write letter & read proof. Dr. Burnett & Miss Castle come to tea.

Monday, Mar 16
Sleep late, day dull & rainy. Go to S.I. work on mail etc. and on Pelecypods for Zittel. Home Evening, read. Have a bad cold

Tuesday, Mar. 17
Morning fine. My cold atrocious. Go to Hayden's and Survey. See Darwin and Hill. Then to S.I. see Dr. McConnell, work over Zittel. Home evening ill with grippe.

Wednesday Mar 18
Morning go over to the Doctors, spend the rest of the day in my room. Thursday & Friday also

here, some of whom come off to the ship. Leave about 10 A.M. for N. Foreland. Anchor off Ladd's station about [[insertion]] 4 P.M. [[/insertion]] two miles north of the point. Go ashore and see Ladd and return to ship. Wait here for the morning tide.

July 25th'95 Thursday
Leave 2 A.M., with miner's boat in tow and reach a small rocky Pt. in Turnagain Arm about 8 A.M. B. & P. take the boat for the placermines half an hour later. Are driven out of the anchorage by tide bore in the afternoon & barely hold our own in the channel. Boat returns but misses the ship in the tide way and goes back to shore to await the slack. Comes aboard about 9 P.M. when we get our anchor, badly twisted and sail for Kachekmak Bay with the ebb tide.
