Morning. Go to office & leave coal report & letters.  See Diller and Baker then to S.I. work over Spirula. Home, evening go to the Wards with Nettie
Wednesday Jan 29
Go to binder's, & S.I. work over mail and take up Diller's fossils work on them until dark.  Evening go to Geol. Society and into the Club. Nettie at church sociable.
Thursday, Jan 30
Morning; go to the doctors & then to the office.  See Walcott then to S.I. work over mail and Diller's fossils.  Home, evening read. Mrs. Hill dines with us.
Friday, Jan 31
Morning cloudy.  Go to S.I.  Attend to mail, work on fossils.  Home  Evening work on paper for the Geogr. Soc.

My 50th birthday. Have a poor nights sleep arriving to my berth being just over the propeller and arrange to take one below.  Weather extra fine & wind fair & moderate. Sleep well in new berth.

Day cloudy, light fair wind. Going well on our course.
Friday, Aug. 23
Day cloudy wind light. Read Mademoiselle De Solange
Saturday Aug 24
Day even smoother than yesterday. Read Hon. Mrs. [[?Veuker?]] and a Study in Scarlet. 870 miles at noon.

Weather cloudy & calm, light airs in P.M.
Monday Aug 26
Weather cloudy, mild.  Wind fresh from the N.E. A small hawk comes aboard. Ship rolling badly in abeam sea.
