The prospects of success were not bright; our soil was largely clay, there was no rain from the beginning of June until the end of July, and the hot dry winds tended to destroy rather than promote growth However, we have enjoyed excellent results and have supplied ourselves with every kind of vegetable from the beginning of June, and the beauty of our flowers and the quality of blooms in our sweet peas has been ^[[most]] remarkable.
