Philadelphia, Pa Dear Sir,- A number of years ago the Burpee seed company established the custom of giving each year a certain number of seeds gratutiously to their patrons. When a child one of these packets were handed to me to be planted and cared for as my own. What these flowers were I do not remember but this gave me my first inspiration to grow flowers. Since then both flowers and vegetables have been grown with additional interest. Two years ago I entered a flower show exhibiting in two classes, one for the finest collection asters and the other, finest specimen of asters, winning the first prizes in each class. Last year I exhibited not only asters but snapdragons, and scabiosa, was awarded the second prizes for asters & snapdragons. Vegetables likewise have been grown almost exclusive from Burpees seeds. A vegetable garden of less than one-fourth acre furnishes a family of six with vegetables both summer and winter with the exception of potatoes. Last year the surplus sold for $160. -
