Prof S.F. Baird
Director of National Museum

Sir
No accessions to the Materia Medica Section have been recorded during the month of March. The specimens remaining at the last report unenclosed, have been put in the Standard Museum bottles and the whole collection is now ready for exhibition. During the month every specimen has been individually examined and checked on our list and an accurate index to the collection is in course of preparation. A report on the Pharmacopoeias belonging to the Library of the Section has been completed and addressed, with your sanction, to the Surgeon General of the Navy. It is in the hands of the Public Printer. Experiments have been made with encouraging success in cutting and mounting sections of roots for the Microscope. The work in hand is_ the completion of the index, and the installation of the collection in accordance with the system of classification
Very respectfully
J.M. Flint. Curator.
