Plagiolipis longipes Jerd.

One might blame this ant for the scarcity of others, if other species did not live under the same stones with it. It lives in all possible situations & at all of the lower altitudes. At Taviuni it was not found high on the crest of the hills.
Some empty shells of Bulinus placed in a straw case for 3 weeks at Vunisea had a flourishing colony of the ant with larvae & pupae.

Taken under a stone. The workers, both in this nest & the one at Taviuni extruded from the anal glands a froathy looking [[strikethrough] el [[/strikethrough]] matter resembling very small worms. This was deposited about the nest. It comes like feces, very rapidly & curls. It is viscid to the touch.

"Plagiolipis" is probably "Plagiolepis", but I left it as Mann wrote it. --thomasc
