We managed to serve tea without Dorothy's assistance, and the group was mightily impressed when I said that she was off making a Chinese speech to a Chinese women's club, on how to tell, stories to chidlren. Eventually she came home, and her report was pleasing. I became more and more determined to join the Lucy Stone League, with J.V.A. Weaver and other gentlemen favored with brilliant wives.

Thursday, 15 October

Our week-end visitor left today, after a couple very pleasant days, at least pleasant for us. I had to work in the afternoon as usual, and came home to find a note from Dorothy saying that she was going over to Ennises' to plan for the week-end with Violet, and that she would be there until five, when she would go to Ruby's. As it was five-thirty I went right over to Ruby's and found Clem and Mears there, and Clem said that Dorothy had not come but had promised Margaret that she would. So I waited, and pretty soon we had coffee and sandwiches and cake, and Margaret came home, and still there was no Dorothy. After an hour, one can seldom get away in less time. I started home, stopping at Ennis's only to learn that Dorothy had gone straight home from there about quarter of six. When I got home I found that we had callers to I went into my study without coming into the house, and only emerged to tell the guests good-bye. It seems that Dorothy had asked a ricksha boy in front of Ruby's if I had gone in there, and he ahd said no; which was stupid of him, for he is Mears' boy and should know me. 

After an informal supper, this is Grandpa's night out, we dressed and went to the Wagaon-Lits to meet the Eastman's and dance. We went dutch, had a little red wine and came home at midnight after a pleasant and inexpensive evening. 

I brought the new camera home from the YSCS to experiment with it a little. We have 4000 plates to use up, and there is no limit to what I can do with the camera or the plates, since all are for the
