Eight dollars was the price asked for him. We pretended horror and walked away but the owner brought the pup after us and we offered a dollar and a half and in a few minutes the price leaped down to that and Dorothy walked away carrying the pup. We took him into the temple where the fair was going on and formally christened him Kriminy Peter.
Dorothy took him home after a while and gave him a bath after which we were better able to judge his worth. He is completely wrong in every feature and the combined effect makes him inexpressibly delightful. He has an airdaleish head and cocky brown ears, a white patch on his nose, a white breast and four white paws. His tail is bobbed and his chief use with it is to brush the rugs as he sits listening or waiting. He is all energy and pep, has a man sized bark that has already intimidated the Garbage man into refusing to come in alone. He is only about 14 inches long and ten inches high so he as the cuteness of a poodle but he has no poodle laziness or pride. And he is clever which delights me for he has already learned to dance for food and to know his name.

We bought some unusual chrysanthemums at this same Fair, lovely things growing tall and stately, some golden, some red inside and white on the outside of the petals, one red- orange "Spider" variety, a "Snowball" white one and a "Button" yellow one. We got six pots delivered at the house for two dollars mex.

Alan Priest asked us to dinner with him in his new house this evening and we had a very pleasant time with him and the younger of the Fu brothers who is living with him this winter.

After a regular schedule of work to-day, Dorothy came up to the school and met me after my lecture and we went with Louise to a famous Honan Fish restuarant Chien Men where we had supper together. Louise had mentioned my name to her students at the Government Normal University when they asked her about a speaker for their Society of English Research and two students came to ask me to speak to them this Tuesday at 8.
