November 7,

Though this was Saturday it has been a day of
rather close work until about tea time when Dorothy
and Peter and I walked up to Miles' to show off the
pup. It was quite a walk for such short legs as
Pepers but he has so much pep and such a delightful
sense of adventure that he refused to show any sign
of weariness. We like it so much that he goes up to
any old size of a dog, always on the offensive and
unafraid of all of them.

We had a good visit with Lee and Freida and the
kids and then coming home, had supper and spent the
evening cluttering up the bathroom with picture
printing apparatus. We had some rather good luck
with prints of pictures I had taken and we spent a
long evening at the job.

November 8,

This Sunday morning I did the kind of puttering
that rests me most of all and delights my soul. I
played at making sketches for our new brass door
plate. We finally decided to have a rectangular one,
about seven inches long and three wide with little
horse of Dorothy's note paper at the top, then March
in English and below that the two characters in
Chinese for "March Residence," or Horse Home. All
the lettering and the figure are to be hammared into
the brass and then filled in with black enamel. It
should be a rather impressive.

In the late afternoon we walked out side Chien
Men and poked along watching the night Fair and the
crowds and the bright shops.

November 9,

Alice Stryker and I worked most of the morning
on standardization tests and grading for the English
department, a task that takes endless time, but is
of great value and extremely essential. I went up
to the Library for a short while in the afternoon,
coming back in time to welcome Alnah James who came
for tea and to see some of our rubbings and paintings.
She is soon to go home and wishes to take some things
with her which home folks will appreciate. She liked
our Hangchow rubbings exceedingly and as always I
loved showing the pictures and things we both love.

This evening we went with Violet and Tom Ennis,
Margaret and Clem Ruby to see the Denishawn Dancers
who are on a world tour and are giving three nights
to Peking audiences. It seemed to us a very good
