Very very cold - Temps 2 below @ 6 pm

Both Collieries were delayed greatly on account of this extremely cold snap - Coal frozen in breakers - machinery etc frozen fast - Very difficult to get the empty cars down and get them loaded - Did very poor hoistings -

Both Collieries worked 9 hours - Vulcan worked 5 - (Stopped so many times that, literally, we only worked 5 hours)
Both Collieries were short of water today - At Vulcan the steam presure was very low, and we had to stop now and again -

The new Jigs at Vulcan are working wonderfully well We can dispense [[c in pen corrected to s with pencil]] with several slate pickers in those chutes -

The reservoirs at both Collieries were not full this morning, and we were greatly in need of water at both places - Neglect of someone in not having the reservoirs filled as we have been idle since last Wednesday -
