Beautiful this AM - Rain storm about 3.40 PM Rained hard, accompanied with thunder & Lightning - Had a rainbow at 4.30 - Rained a little afterwards - Also had some thunder & lightning - 

Vulcan worked 10 hours and BMtn 9 - did poor hoisting at BMtn - only worked 9 hours on that acct - 

Mr. Marshall, of Toronto Canada, visited the Collieries this AM - Were met at Delano with team - drove to B Mtn thence to Vulcan - and then came down here for dinner took 1 PM train for home - He is one of the people to whom we sell our coal - 

Mr. Lathrop has furnished us with 10 more cars (40/4) to load stock Pea Coal here at New Boston - this maked a total of 54 1/4 cars - Will load these 10 on [[strikethrough]] Wednes [[/strikethrough]] Thursday & Friday -

Vulcan worked 9 hours BMtn 10 -

Only worked 9 hours at Vulcan as we had enough coal in breaker to load cars -

Tunnel in [[strikethrough]] 4 [[/strikethrough]] 3' West #4 BMtn, is finished - Started in Oct 95 endended June 7-97. idle two month at Bottom split, to prove depth of basins, etc., took 1 year & 6 months work to drive it -

A Chestnut Jig, Christ Pattern, came to Vulcan to-day - Will be put in this week
