[[preprinted]] December, TUESDAY, 7. 1897. [[/preprinted]]

Tempt +28 degrees and Barometer 28.38 @ 73/a
Tempt +30 degrees and Barometer 28.38 @ 6Pm
Cool - Sun shining now and again - grey sky -

Both Collieries worked 9 hours - Our allotment being only 53 Cars per day, practically 7 hours work.

Vulcan is restricted to M H & Co Perth Amboy
Wilbur to 14 cars W & K " "
B Mtn " 12 " to M H & Co. and then only certain coals can be shipped there by either Colliery - This restriction, and the scarcity of gondolas, cripples us somewhat - Line orders are waiting for gondolas - Mr. Jones has spoken to Mr Blakelsee & Delano office several times about it -

To-day at Buck Mountain Colliery, 4 West, at turnout which has been just timbered, a new set of timber fell on the Air Locomotive, which was running, [[strikethrough]] at [[/strikethrough]] and stopped the progress - Mike Leonard of Mahanoy City was running this locomotive to-day, and at the time of the accident had his left hand between bumpers of Engines and car - The timber stopped the Locomotive and the bumpers came together - smashed his hand - Loco was not damaged
Notified Stein the Inspector -
Do not know what caused Timber to fall - Powell said legs were 18" clear - Had it amputated above wrist at Miners Hospital Ashland -
