[[preprinted]] Tempt +20° and Barometer 28.58 @ 73/a Tempt +24° and Barometr 28.31 @ 6 Pm Very cold this morning - snowed to-day - or rather we had sleet - Everything covered with ice - Both Collieries started up this morning - Mr. Evans is at "Buck Mountain" to-day - Was at home sick last week - Both Collieries worked 8 hours - The Vulcan breaker was frozen up this morning - Things ran stiff for a while - At Buck Mountain, the water in tail pipe of Breaker Pump was frozen and Colliery did not get started until 8 oclock - Mr Jones talked the matter over with the Bosses - Night shift at Vulcan will be suspended after to-night - We have several gangways there on double shift; have 3 or 4 drivers and patchers, a man loading rock, a hoisting Engineer, and 4 men outside unloading rock - all night shifts - On account of the few days to work we can dispense with this night work, and will hoist the rock on idle days - Buck Mountain has a man working at night cleaning the slopes and repairing slope rolls, etc - This is necesary, in a way - put it off also - Condemned 10/4 cars Bu. [[preprinted]] Tempt +30° and Barometer 28.24 @ 73/am Tempt +33° and Barometr 28.15 @ 6 Pm Ground covered white, with a coating of ice mixed with sprinkling of snow - Trees covered with ice, very pretty - Both Collieries idle - L.V. not running cars - Vulcan ran through the condemned coal to-day - General repairing going on - Have a large force working at the west tunnels, on the 4 and 5th lifts at Buck Mountain Colliery - Turnouts are nearly completed -
