Last night about 10:30 P.M., a fire broke out in house #36, (rent roll) here at New Boston - Quick response to the cry "fire" and active work, on the part of Americans, prevented, what might have been, a conflagration - Poleanders live in this house - Were burning of coal in stove - a defective flue. was the cause - At first it looked as if the block would be burnt, but it was quickly controlled, - a hole was knocked through the back, from the attic, and the chimney was opened, where the walls were the hottest, and buckets of water did the rest -
The Poleanders looked toward saving their household goods, etc, while the Americans put the fire out -
A high wind was blowing, and as the houses are built closely, we are [[strikethrough]] for [[/strikethrough]] and others, [[strikethrough]] are [[/strikethrough]] fortunate [[strikethrough]] in [[?]] checking [[/strikethrough]]
