38. The Flying Pavilion     Ch.
At the foot of Tsin Yun Shan, ten li from Pei Pei, is a hot spring accompanied by a monastery under the same name. Local well-known people transformed this place into a public park where the hot spring has been made into a swimming pool. Upon the steep cliff at the back stands a pavilion called Fei Lai (literarily means to have flown here from somewhere else) from which one can have a panoramic view.

In the gorge of the hot spring the scenery is picturesque.

40. Ancient Rock Carvings     Ch. Br.
These ancient rock carvings on the hilly path to the hot spring part is a relic of the Six Dynasties. (260 A.D.).

41. Hot Spring Gorge     P.N.
The weather at the Wan Tsuan (Hot Spring) Gorge is actually mild in winter. The Spring is at body temperature both in winter and in summer. Inside the Gorge there is often a layer of hazy mist. Rowing in small boats and enjoying the grandeur of nature, one feels a part of the picture itself.

What with the industriousness of the people and the fertility of the soil in Szechuan, not an inch of land, even on hill tops, is left uncultivated.

45. Spilling Over The Dam     Ch.
At Hsia Hai Kou on Tsin Yun Shan, a Dam was built to stop the flow of the canal solely for the purpose of transporting coal from Pao Yuan and Suichuan. On both sides of the canal the scenery is so enchanting that the local authorities have made it a public park.

46. Towing     P.N.
Boats have to be towed upstream through the torrents between the gorges. While the boatmen perform their task, they sing folksongs that ease their toil.

47. Bent by Breeze     Ch. Br.
Taken near a quarry at a gorge of the Chialing river, of which the slate is famous for manufacture of Chinese ink-slabs.
