Our garden is a week later than the gardens of Albany. In 1924 we raised Wayaheads. Some plants went to seed and were tossed near the hen-yard on hard clay soil. The hens promptly climbed the fence and ate the leaves, thus showing their good sense and scattering the seed widely. This spring, behold a thriving plot of lettuce, enough for a township! Soon we had loose-heading lettuce, and May thirtieth when the locust trees were in leaf, we had fine complete heads. The hens, like all planters of "Burpee's", were rewarded - for they had lettuce every day. Caroline L. Anderson, Meadowdale, N.Y. July 27, 1925.
