Time After Time 1989
watercolor on paper 15 x 117 inches

We've done it so many times. All the time, or a long time between times with plenty of time, or in no time at all. Sometimes we'll think we've made it, but time and again -- those times when we don't do it -- we'll be lost to each other, 'til the time comes when we make it again and again, time after time. We can be in each other and be lost in time.

Today 1989
charcoal and chalk on paper 38 x 50 inches

In the drawing Today I attempt to draw "the activity of concentrating" on living a full life after one finds he or she is HIV positive. Most of us, at some level, shun a deep emotional connectedness; an unleashed commitment to living, loving and working. I was thinking how this could amplify when hit so hard and constantly with one's mortality. The drawing is about the choice to go on, to "be in", to exist, to exchange, to continue with a high level of feeling. The drawing is an attempt to bring into vision the tremendous mental effort it must take, having this knowledge, to focus on today.
