Sir

I am informed that Capt. Robt. B. Beath 6" U.S.C.T. is detained at Camp Cadwallader Phila. by the want of an order to report to his Regt. although the Commander of the Camp affirms that there is no further need for Capt. B's. services there, and he is very anxious to be relieved. The District Commander in which the 6" is serving, has consented to detail Capt. B. for duty in the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen &c. I very much need his help. It is very difficult to find officers for the pressing work of this Bureau. I have the honor therefore to request that Capt. Beath be relieved and ordered to his Regiment.

Very Respectfuly
E. Whittlesey
Col. and Asst. Commissioner

Sir

The 4" N.H. and many other Regts. are about to be mustered out of the service. I am very anxious to retain Surgeon David. P. Dearborn 4" N.H. Vols. who has been in charge of my Freedmen Hospital for several weeks. Cannot his muster out be suspended? Do save him for me if possible. It is almost impossible to get any medical attendance. If Surgeon D.- is compelled to leave I shall not know where to look.

Very Respectfully
E. Whittlesey
Col. and Asst. Commissioner

P.S.- I asked yesterday by Telegraph for Capt. H.C. Lawrence A.Q.M. being informed that he would probably be discharged as one of the no longer needed.
