Captain I have the honor herewith to transmit an order for you to proceed to Warrenton and return. On this order you can collect your actual expenses of transportation. The Comdg. Genl. directs me to state that the order of Genl. Whittlesey, late Asst. Comr. will not give you transportation over any other than lines of railroad or steamboats. I am, Capt. Your Obdt. Srvt. Comr. to say that, in view of the large number of officers on duty in the Bureau, in the State, and the proposed reduction of the force of clerks, he is unable to furnish you a situation. Supts. to be at once discharged. It is intended as far as possible to dispense with clerks. An officer has been ordered to report to you (Lt. Coats) but he is unable, thro' illness, to go to Wilmington at present. Other officers are expected & so soon as they come, assistants will be sent you. Stickney Major Asst. Supt. Goldsboro N.C. /318 Major I am instructed by the Asst. Comr. to ask if Chaplain Glavis has relinquished control of the Govt. Farm near Goldsboro. B.R.F. & A.L. So. Dist. N.C. 304/325 Col. I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 30" ult. relative to the issue of rations to destitute whites. I am directed by the Asst. Comsser. to say that there are no orders authorizing such issue at present. Their demands for assistance should be referred to the Wardens of the Poor of their respective Counties. I am, Col. He desires me to say that under existing orders no issue of rations could be made, but that orders are expected from Washington under which the desired assistance may be accorded.
