My Dear Sir

As you will see from the enclosed papers all efforts to get the information requested by you in your letter of 29" May 1866, have proved unavailing - If you write to Maj. S.W. Cole, Ansonville, Anson Co. N.C. he may be able to let you know about the persons referred to. Maj. Cole is an old citizen of that County - and has been chairman of its court for many years.

I am, Sir,

General,

I have the honor to state that by the provisions of Special Orders No.322. Extract 5. A.G.O. of date July 7", 1866, Surgeon M.K. Hogan, U.S. Vols. is honorably mustered out of the service of the United States.
Dr. Hogan has long been on duty in this State as Surgeon in Chief - and is the only Medical Officer, not a contract Surgeon, attached to the Bureau in North Carolina. He cannot well be spared - and I have the honor to request that he be allowed to remain on duty at these Head Quarters unless some other Surgeon U.S. Vols. can be assigned in his stead.
