Gentlemen I am directed by the Asst. Comr. to refer to you the cases of Anna Holafield and Roberta Wunifrey, who desire to be supplied with food. the Asst. Comr. does not consider himself authorized to order the issue of rations to the destitute whites, under existing orders, and desires to be informed if no provision has been made or can be made by the proper Civil Authorities, for the relief of the poor of this County. B.R.F. & A.L., Lexington, N.C. Sir I have the honor, by direction of the Asst. Comr. to inform you that Seven Thousand rations for destitute freedpeople were sent you this A.M. by freight train. The matter to which you allude to is one with which the officers of the Bureau have nothing whatever to do, and you will have to bring it before the Civil Courts.
