I have the honor herewith to return a number of Indentures of Apprenticeship for your cancellation. In several of them female children are apprenticed until they are 21, in direct violation of the laws of the State. In the others, the officer has neglected to sign his name officially. Hodge Justin Capt. and Asst. Supt.

Captain

Affidavits have been received at these Hd. Qrs. to the effect that, after a writ of replevin had been issued in the case of Simon Smith vs: Jessee L. Bryan, you forcibly took the horse in question from the holder, when it was really in the custody of the Law, and that you now hold the horse. The Asst Com. desires me to say, that if the facts as stated in the affidavit are true, your action was irregular.

I am Captain
Very Respectfully
