260 Bureau of Refugees Freedmen &c Hd Qrs Asst Commissioner Raleigh N.C. Jan 25th 1867 Moore Lt Col Stephen Supt East Dist New Berne N.C. Colonel I have the honor to inform you that the report of a board convened Jan 2nd 1867 under Special Orders No 159 these Hd Qrs to consider the question of rent for property of Mr G.V. Street used for Hospital purposes at New Berne has been submitted to the Commissioner and is approved. Rent for the property will therefore be allowed from 2nd April 1866 at the rate of twenty (20) dollars per month. By order of the Act Asst Comr Very Respectfully Your Obdt Sevt F A Seely Bt Maj & A.A.A.G. Bureau of Refugees Freedmen &c Hd Qrs Asst Commissioner Raleigh N.C. Jan 25th 1867 Edie Bt Col J.R. Supt West Dist Salisbury N.C. Colonel I have the honor to transmit herewith transportation order No 151 for Caroline Henderson & child dependent freedpeople from Lincolnton N.C. to Canton Miss. You will please cause this order to be transmitted to the nearest officer of the Bureau to Lincolnton who will hand it to her and return the enclosed receipt dated and signed. It is supposed here that the Post Qr Master at Charlotte is the proper officer to issue the transportation on this order. Supt Westn Dist Salisbury N.C. Colonel The acting Asst Comr directs me to enclose to you the accompanying list of clothing necessary for the use of certain freedmen now under contract to remove from the State, with instructions to make immediate requisitions for the same on Maj Johnston Chf Qr Mr B.R.F. & A.L. Raleigh if upon examination you should judge the issue necessary and in accordance with the regulations of the Bureau. I am directed by the Asst Commissioner to transmit to you the enclosed copy of a report made by Justin Hodge Esq late Agent of the Bureau at Fayetteville with the request that you will make such explanation of the occurence as you may be able and hoping you will take such measures as may prevent a repetition of it In the opinion of the Asst Comr Capt Hunt having having consented unconditionally to transport Mr Hodge to Fayetteville at the time he presented his order of transportation was bound to do so as long as that officer conducted himself in a proper manner.
