Colonel

I am directed by the Acting Asst Commissioner to acknowledge receipt of your communication of 14th inst relative to the conduct of R.F. Hunter Agent and in connection therewith to transmit enclosed communication of Mr Hunter in reference to his appointment in the Army. You being the only party conversant with the facts in his case the Actg Asst Comr desires your views in regard to a further prosecution in the matter whether the case is of sufficient weight as to make it expedient to push it further than to dispense with his services as Agent which will be accomplished by his appointment, or on the other hand to act at once by a dismissal which might in all probability effect his promotion. Authority has been requested for a delay in the day for appearing before Examining Board. No action will be taken until receipt of your reply.

Very respectfully
Your Obdt Servt

Lieutenant

Refering to the complaint of George Little Esq transmitted to you Mar 4th relating to the loss of his laborers I am directed by the Acting Asst Comr to inform you that the matter is perfectly understood by Mr Gwynn on whose premises the men now are and he is anxious they should [[strikethrough]] leave [[/strikethrough]] return to Mr Little. You are therefore requested to visit the laborers and explain to them that by their violation of their contract they

have rendered themselves liable to prosecution for damages, that they are by their conduct losing the esteem of the Bureau, that they must not break faith with their employers, and advise them to return to Mr Little otherwise they will be prosecuted as the Bureau is determined to enforce contracts entered in by whites or Blacks.

P.S. If you can prevail on these men to go you will endeavor to make arrangements for their safe delivery to Mr Little, perhaps you had better accompany them as Mr Little would like to see you. Mr Gwynn will pay expenses.
