Ch'm of Comr on Destitution Philadelphia Pa Sir By direction of the Acting Asst Comr I have the honor on the part of the Government to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of the 22nd inst addressed to Gov Worth and Col Bomford jointly relative to Three thousand bushels of corn now at Wilmington N.C. and which has been donated by Citizens of Philadelphia for distribution among the destitute of this State - irrespective of all social, religious, and political distinctions. I have the honor to inform you that arrangements are now in progress to distribute the same under the joint supervision of the Executive of the State and this Department so that no unnecessary delay will occur and an impartial distribution arrived at. Colonel I am directed by the Acting Asst Comr to inform you that in consequence of changes in clerical force at these Hd Qrs Jas W. Bacon for a short time past a clerk in this office becomes supernumery and in view of your loosing the services of Mr Kilmer the Asst Comr deems it expedient to send Mr Bacon to you as a clerk to supply the vacancy and will accordingly be ordered to report to you about the 1st proximus. I 5th U.S.C.T. also Treasury Certificate No 293.350 for One hundred dollars ($100) the amount of his claim against the United States for additional bounty.
