Commissioner Washington D.C. General I have the honor to call your attention to the case of Robt Davis (freedman) recently sentenced to death at Greensboro Guilford Co N.C. and in which case a report was made by Bt Brig Genl Robt Avery, Inspector and forwarded from these Hd Qrs Jan 12th in answer to which a communication was received from Bureau Hd Qrs dated Jan 22nd 1867 authorzing an offer to the Executive of this State to transport Davis from the State - in case he was pardoned. I am enabled to report that his pardon has been obtained under the above proviso - and that he is now in the hands of the Bureau - and transportation is now desired to such point as the Commissioner may deem most advisable. Davis seems to have no preference as to what locality he may be sent to - he says he has a father residing in Cincinnati but knows nothing more as to his whereabouts. He has been brought up in the Country, but also has a good idea of Shoemaking. It may be pertinent to this case to remind the Commissioner of a [[end page]] [[start page]] [[preprinted]] 347 [[/preprinted]] conversation whilst in company with the Acting Asst Commissioner in reference to Davis in which the Commissioner suggested his removal to Louisiana or Texas.
