In answer to your communication of March 28th ulto making certain inquiries in anticipation of the Act of Congress for supplying the destitute, I have the honor to report 
1st  There are at least 6000 persons in the State need food to prevent suffering
2nd  Provisions [[underlined]] except pork [[/underlined]] can be purchased in the State at about the following prices
At Wilmington  Corn 1.20 & 122.  Bacon side 14 1/2

" [[ditto for: At]] Raleigh  Corn 1.35  Bacon Sides 14 1/2  Shou'd 14 1/2
" [[ditto for: At]] New Bern " [[ditto for: Corn]] 1.25 " [[dittos for: Bacon Sides]] 14 1/2  " [[ditto for: Shou'd]] 13 1/2
" [[ditto for: At]] Charlotte " [[ditto for: Corn]] 1.35 " " [[dittos for: Bacon Sides]] 16 to 18
3rd  Supplies from other markets should be stopped either to New Berne or Wilmington
4th  Chief Qr Mr of the Bureau can receipt for supplies.  There are Agents sufficient to distribute them.

You are respectfully requested to ascertain if possible the facts in the case, reporting the same to these Hd Qrs.
