Colonel

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your endorsement upon my application for an Ambulance &c. I should consider it a great kindness if you would direct your Quarter Master to furnish me with one of the Ambulances now out of repair and not deemed fit for issue. The Bureau Quarter Master can have such a one rebuilt.

Captain

I have the honor to report that I have received from Col J.V. Bomford 8th Infantry late commanding Mil Dist of N.C. a large quantity of General Orders from various Hd Qrs many of which are of no benefit to me. I am unable to obtain from among them a sufficient number issued from Hd Qrs 2nd Military District to make a complete file for use of these Head Quarters and consequently none for issue to the various subordinate officers of this Bureau. I therefore respectfully request to be furnished with Seventy five copies of General orders current series 2nd Mil Dist to date.

I am directed by the Asst Comr to inform you that it is reported to these Head Quarters that Lieut Cox has as yet "done nothing" in reference to procuring suitable persons to act as Registers and that he "is incompetant to do anything" and you are therefore requested to take such immediate measures as will carry out the instructions upon the subject in Duplin and Sampson Counties.

Major

In reply to your communication of 6th the Asst Commissioner directs me to say that until a reorganization of the Bureau Districts you will assume a supervisory charge of all the Counties comprised within the Military District known as Post of Morganton, more Officers will be sent to that section shortly.
Instructions have been sent to Messrs Thos Gibbs at Hendersonville to procure names for registers &c in the Counties west of the mountains and R.B. Bogle at Lenoir for Burke County but you will now push this matter yourself. You can take such trips as you think proper without orders making your vouchers accordingly. Use all diligence in carrying out the work.

Very respectfully
