Commissioner

General

Steward Ellison (colored) says he was taken away from his wife and children in 1861 who remained in Washington N.C. He was carried from place until the surrender when he located in Raleigh, and is doing well at his trade. The children have lost their mother and he is anxious to have them with him but is unable to pay transportation for all. I therefore recommend that transportation be furnished for his three (3) children aged respectively about 7, 8 & 9 years from Washington N.C. to Raleigh N.C.
