I have the honor to transmit herewith testimony in case of Gupton vs Speed for an alleged violation of "Civil Rights Bill".
The defendant in this case was arrested and bound to appear at next term of US. Circuit Court which meets in this City June 1st by Lieut Thos H. Hay USA Asst Supt of this Bureau.
Any instructions you may desire to give you will please send to Lieut Hay at Franklinton N.C.

Understanding that there is some property located in this City belonging to the State of North Carolina, set apart for School purposes, I have the honor to apply on behalf of the U.S. Government for the use of the plot of ground bounded by Dawson Lane and North Streets and R & G. RailRoad to be set apart for School purposes for such a length of time as it may be necessary for said purpose - and upon which if granted will be erected a substantial school house building.
