Sir Please inform me whether Richard and John Mayo reside in Tally Ho. If so please direct them to communicate with these Head Quarters and they will hear something to their advantage. Commissioner Washington N.C. General I have the honor to request that transportation be furnished Lewis Manly and four adults (freedmen) from Raleigh N.C. to Memphis Tenn. The application is made by Hon Kenneth Rayner who will employ them at good wages on their arrival The men cannot transport themselves as they earn a very precarious living and are liable to become a charge upon the Government in the immediate future which will be avoided if taken away. Mr Rayner has been assisting them heretofore but he is now about removing West, where he offers them good employment provided the Government will assist him to the extent of his application. Major By direction of the Asst Commissioner I herewith enclose discharge of Harry Crenshaw late Private Co H. 54 U.S.C.T. in which you are requested to prepare claim for additional bounty in case any is due. Captain I have the honor to transmit herewith recommendations for appointments of Registers and Inspectors of Elections for seventy nine Counties of this State, the balance (ten Counties) will be forwarded as fast as completed. These selections have been made through the Officers and Agents of this Bureau, Officers of the Army and influential loyal Citizens by which means I am able to present the names of only such persons as are duly qualified and can take the required Oath.
